Barbara Laskin is a nationally known media trainer, public speaker, and communications consultant. She is the Founder and President of Laskin Media, Inc. a full-service communication training company that prepares people for media interviews and public speaking assignments.
Since 1992, the company has offered media training, presentation training, (Read about ExecuSpeech) interview skills training, satellite training, crisis response and speech writing services to key executives and others from Fortune 500 and 100 companies (view client list). Laskin Media has also prepared famous actors and actresses, sports figures, authors and celebrity spokespeople for their appearances on The David Letterman Show, the Tonight Show, CNN, CNBC, Fox News and other high-profile TV venues.
Prior to starting Laskin Media, Ms. Laskin was a distinguished broadcaster in both her native Canada and in the United States. She began her TV career behind the scenes as a writer and producer at CTV-TV in Toronto, and later became an on-air personality at CBC-TV and CITY-TV. Moving to Stamford, Connecticut in the 1980s, she was part of the first-ever on-air team to anchor a 24-hour news channel—Satellite News Channel, which preceded CNN by eleven months.
Ms. Laskin then moved to WNYW-TV, Fox News’ flagship station in New York, where she was an anchor and daily news reporter, covering the major political and legal stories of the day. While at Channel Five, she wrote and produced Award-winning Prime-time news specials. The recipient of many broadcasting awards—including a Gold Medal by the International Film and TV Festival, a Folio and Angel Award, the Award of recognition from American Women in Radio and Television—Barbara capped her career by winning an EMMY Award for Fox Channel Five for producing, writing and starring in the best Issues-documentary of the Year, entitled, “Scared to Death.”
Ms. Laskin is a frequent contributor to the New York Daily News and other publications on communication issues and has critiqued the debate performances of the presidential candidates in past presidential elections. As an entrepreneur, Ms. Laskin supports the needs and efforts of fellow business owners and was a long-time Board member of NAWBO-NYC, the National Association of Women Business Owners—New York Chapter. For her long time-efforts, she was awarded NAWBO’s Spirit of New York Award.
